“The Bildtstar is a potato variety developed in the Frisian municipality of Het Bildt, originating from a cross between the Winda and Saturna potato varieties. The Bildtstar’s skin is red.” That’s according to Wikipedia, which thankfully also mentions a heavy metal/hard rock band of the same name, founded in 2019 in Leeuwarden.
These heavy rockers prove that their province isn’t just home to pop music (we’re looking at you, Auke & Ellen, De Kast, Griet Wiersma, Twarres). With their classic (/old-school) hard rock and heavy metal riffs, they’re a time machine transporting you straight to the ’80s—when bands like Y&T, Raven, Tygers of Pan Tang, Tokyo Blade, Vandenberg, Saxon, Angel Witch, and Anvil were essential listening.
Vanderbuyst may no longer exist, but Bildtstar is a more than worthy successor.
